ISLAMABAD: (APP) Director General Licensing Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Vakil Ahmed Khan said that 15th August, 2016 would be the last date for filing of applications for Direct-to-Home (DTH) television service.

The DTH licensing, will introduce a new generation of technology and services for the TV viewers, and also bring investment to media industry and generate employment, the Director General said here on Friday while talking to APP.

Date for the auction of three DTH licenses has been set as October 3, 2016 and the licenses will be issued through open bidding, he said.

To a question, Vakil Khan said that the signal of these channels would be decoded through a set top box which would be connected with a receiver. The set-top boxes would provide facilities like parental control, sports channels choice, language choice, choice of downloading drama serials and disaster alerts etc.

He said that shortlisting of applicants would be done by September 9 and only shortlisted applicant companies shall be invited to participate in the bidding process for the award of DTH Distributio
