Senate directs PTA to take concrete steps against blasphemous content
ISLAMABAD: (APP) Senate Standing Committee on Information and Technology and Telecommunication Wednesday directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to increase the number of staff to monitor and control Blasphemous content on social media.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Shahi Syed while Senator Najma Hameed, Syed Shibli Faraz, Taj Muhammad Afridi and Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman also attended the meeting.
The committee rendered its full support and appealed to media to play its role regarding the issue of Blasphemous content on social media.
Chairman PTA Ismail Shah briefed the committee that PTA was keenly monitoring and controlling Blasphemous content on social media as Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been directed to arrest the culprits involved in uploading of sacrilegious material on social media. He said 15 % content was available on facebook and 85 % on other web sites.
He told the committee that many links had been blocked on the complaints of people and Facebook administration would visit Pakistan to discuss the issue regarding blasphemous content.
He said a meeting was also held with ambassadors of 27 countries to discuss the issue.
Anusha Rehman, on the occasion, said this Blasphemous content was truly a heart wrenching issue and intolerable for every Muslim.
The minister also informed that after Cyber crime law we were going to introduce Data Protection Act in future.
Senator Shibli Faraz gave the suggestion to make plan with collective efforts of OIC and that strict law enforcement was required to get rid of such issues.
