PM Imran Khan forced Advisor Babar Awan to resign: Sources

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan on Tuesday resigned from the post of advisor to the prime minister on parliamentary affairs.

“Upholding Prime Minister Imran Khan’s promise with the nation, I resign from the post of advisor to PM on parliamentary affairs so that I may disprove allegations levelled [against me] in the NAB reference,” read Babar’s resignation letter.

However sources revealed that Babar was not willing to resign from the post, however, he was forced to do so by PM Khan.

“Becoming the advisor on parliamentary affairs was not Babar’s first choice as he had kept his eyes on the coveted slot of Law minister.

He had only accepted the position after Dr Farogh Nasim had been chosen over him,” they said, adding that differences between the prime minister and his advisor had surfaced after the incident.

“Following the filing of a corruption reference against Babar, the premier left him with no other option but to step down,” sources said.
