Islamabad: The Minister for Energy, Muhammad Ali, has stated that during winters, gas cannot be supplied to households 24 hours a day.
The Minister for Energy mentioned in his statement that continuous efforts are being made to supply gas during the winter season. There have been successful deals for LNG cargoes for the winters. Muhammad Ali stated that this year, there is already an 18% gas shortage during winters, and this time, only 8 hours of gas supply will be available.
Regarding electricity, he mentioned that the crackdown against electricity thieves will continue. So far, 16 billion rupees have been recovered from electricity thieves. He also informed that there are changes in the board of distribution companies for electricity.
An important decision has been made in the ECC (Economic Coordination Committee) regarding electricity distribution companies in the private sector. Last month, it was reported that the government had prepared a practical plan to deal with the expected gas crisis during the winter season.
The government had issued tenders for LNG supply in December. Bids were invited from international companies for LNG supply, and tenders were requested for two LNG cargoes for December.
