ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday issued detailed judgment regarding suspension of imprisonment sentences of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son in law Capt (Retd) Muhammad Safdar given to them by an accountability court in the Avenfield property reference.
The decision, which was written by Justice Athar Minallah and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, stated that prima facie the trial court’s verdict in corruption reference could not be last long due to some weaknesses and legal errors.
It further read that the bail decision would not affect the main appeal against the Avenfield property judgment. The prosecution side mostly depended on the Panama Papers judgment during arguments in proceeding.
The order stated that the accountability court did not mention the reference and evidence of Maryam Nawaz’s assistance to her father in purchase of the London flats.
The court’s findings were not final and it could not affect the proceedings on the accused persons’ appeals. The prosecution did not estimate the price of London flats. On query about record, the National Accountability Bureau’s prosecution suggested the court to approach Google for those documents, which was an unexpected act.
It stated that the trial court had acquitted the accused from charges of 9A-4 but the prosecution did not challenge the decision.
