How to find the stolen and misplaced mobile phone? PTA issues guidelines

ISLAMABAD - IN the stolen or misplaced phone is an occurrence that most of us have had to deal with at least once in our lives, and it’s never short of frustrating. While there are always ways to minimize your losses by blocking the lost device, it is not always clear to the average person how to do that.

In this respect, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has duly stepped up and issued a public advisory that not only urges mobile phone users to report their misplaced devices as soon as possible, but also gives clear instructions on what to do in such an event.

To start with, the PTA makes it clear that the device in question will be blocked within just 16 hours of reporting the incident. You can do that by either calling the PTA helpline 0800-25625, sending an email at *imei@pta.gov.pk* , or by visiting the nearest PTA zonal office with the following details:

- All IMEIs of the stolen phone - The mobile number being used in the phone - Brand, model, and color - Date of incident - Name, CNIC, father/mother name - Address - Contact number

Additionally, you can also get in touch with the Citizens Police Liaison Committee by contacting them at 1102, 021-35662222, or 021-35682222 in order to get your devices blocked.

Once your device is blocked, the following status will be displayed: Your mobile device (IMEI number) is blocked (Reported Stolen/Lost/Misused to PTA). This status can be checked by either sending an SMS comprising of your 15-digit IMEI (this can be determined from the settings or by dialing *#06#) to 8484, visiting the *dirbs.pta.gov.pk* link website, or by accessing the *Device Verification System – DIRBS* link Pakistan app.

Needless to say, PTA has strongly discouraged false reporting, terming it as a criminal offence that will be punished according to the law.
