Did Pakistani batsman Fawad Alam break the dressing room window?

KARACHI: Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam has brushed aside allegations of breaking the dressing room window in anger during a club match in Lancashire. In a match against Colne Cricket Club, the 32-year-old batsman was declared timed-out after he failed to reach the playing area within the specified period of time. “The dressing room window broke accidentally during the league match,” said Alam. “It’s not my fault and the umpires also agreed with my stance.”

The controversy arose when a spectator, who was present at the venue, shared a tweet stating that Alam had broken the dressing room window in anger after being announced timed out. Alam is representing Clitheroe Cricket Club – as its only professional player in the Lancashire League – for the second season in a row. He played a key role in the team’s campaign during 2017 which led them to the title in the previous edition.

Earlier, Alam was overlooked during the selection of the Pakistan Test team for the tour of Ireland and England. The 32-year-old’s snub from the national team brought chief selector Inzamamul Haq under severe criticism from all cricketing circles.

However the chief selector had said that Usman Salahuddin was a better choice than Alam as they thought the 27-year-old was better suited to perform on the tour of Ireland and England. Usman, given his debut cap in the second Test against England, was dismissed LBW by England veteran James Anderson on a score of four in the first innings.
