PSL 2017: Shahid Afridi relinquishes Peshawar Zalmi captaincy

LAHORE: The West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy has been named the captain of the Peshawar Zalmi, instead of Shahid Afiridi.

Sammy the former T20 Captain of the West Indies team led his team to victory in the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cups was handed over the captaincy from Shahid Afridi, who was the captain of the team last year.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old Misbah the captain of the last year champions Islamabad United will remain the captain this season as well.

The former captain of the Sri Lankan team Kumar Sangakkara will be the captain of Karachi Kings this time. The 39-year-old batsman has retired from all formats of international cricket.

The captain of the Quetta Gladiators Sarfraz Ahmed will remain as captain this year too. Sarfraz is the captain of Pakistan T20 team and vice-captain of the ODI team. At the age of 29, the wicketkeeper-batsman is the youngest captain in PSL 2017.

Moreover, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum will replace Azhar Ali as captain of Lahore Qalandars team.

He has announced his retirement from international cricket last year and the first captain to lead his side to a World Cup final in 2015 where they were defeated by Australia.
