ISLAMABAD: The PTI and MQM decided to sit together on the treasury benches despite their ideological differences.
This was announced after an MQM delegation led by convener Khaliq Maqbool Siddiqui met PTI chief Imran Khan at his residence in Bani Gala.
Talking to the media, PTI leader Jahangir Tareen said they had a fruitful meeting. “I welcome the MQM to the PTI’s to be formed government,” he said.
We have signed a ‘written’ memorandum of understanding for cooperation, he said.
Tareen said that the PTI’s manifesto gives pivotal importance to the local government and will support MQM’s petition in the Supreme Court for the implementation of the local government system in Sindh in its true essence.
Financial package for Karachi, university for Hyderabad
The PTI leader said the incoming government would pay special attention to the renewal of Karachi’s urban centres and a special monetary package will be also announced for Karachi.
Tareen said his party has always emphasised the importance of education. Hyderabad, being the second largest city of Sindh, has the right to have a public university. We will increase the education budget, he added.
‘PTI-MQM coalition – need of the hour’
The MQM convener said whatever has been agreed between the two parties is not only a constitutional requirement but also the need of the hour.
We preferred to put national and democratic interests ahead of our own party interests, he said. He said that the development of Karachi means the development of the whole country.
The PTI has assured us that they will support our demands to conduct another census in Karachi, Siddiqui said.
We also agree to scrutinise the election process in constituencies where we have doubts, he said. Imran has already said in his speech that he is ready to have constituencies scrutinised if any parties have reservations, he added.
Talking about the Karachi operation, Siddiqui said that the operation will be seen to its logical conclusion. The PTI has also promised to look into any injustice done during the operation, he said.
Responding to question, he said, “The MQM will always remain relevant to Pakistan.”
However, Siddiqui said that they have yet to discuss ministries or official posts in the government.
