US wants strong partnership with Pakistan: Envoy

Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua has expressed the hope that the ongoing US review will result in a comprehensive political strategy to promote reconciliation and peace in Afghanistan and the region.
She was talking to a US delegation led by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice G Wells in Islamabad today.
During the meeting, Pakistan's perspectives on challenges confronting the region including the security situation in Afghanistan were shared with the American side.
Ambassador Wells was assured that Pakistan supports all initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable peace and security in the region, and it was emphasized that a strong partnership with the United States is critical to achieve these shared objectives.
US Acting Assistant Secretary of State acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
She agreed on the importance of a strong partnership between the two countries and gave US perspective on how to move forward this relationship in the coming years.
Ambassador Wells reiterated that the objective of bilateral cooperation is to seek a stable, secure and prosperous Pakistan.
