AC upholds Dar’s bailable arrest warrant, rejects exemption plea

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court (AC) has on Thursday rejected the application for Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s exemption from court proceedings an upheld his bailable arrest warrant.
The accountability court (AC) judge Muhammad Bashir heard the assets beyond corruption reference against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
During the proceedings, Ayesha Ahad, the junior counsel of the federal minister and his guarantor appeared before the court as Ishaq Dar and his counsel Khawaja Hairs failed to appear before the court.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and the four witnesses who are all related to several private banks were also present in the court.
The junior lawyer moved an application in the court seeking exemption of the federal minister from proceeding on medical ground.
The application stated that Dar has to undergo Angiography on November 3 (tomorrow). The junior lawyer also submitted a medical report which states that the finance minister is ill and cannot stand for more than four minutes.
The NAB prosecutor while opposing the medical report said that it was of a private clinic, adding that the accused needs to undergo Angiography as soon as the accused is arrested. He also gave example of prime suspect in Qandeel Baloch murder case Mufti Abdul Qavi.
The NAB prosecutor opposed the federal minister’s request and sought non-bailable arrest warrants. The court rejected the exemption Dar’s request and upheld his bailable warrants.
The NAB prosecutor while submitting bank account and asset details of Ishaq Dar in the court, requested the court to allow them to freeze the minister’s assets abroad.
The junior counsel of the federal minister objected to the request, saying that NAB cannot freeze Dar’s assets as the case is in court, to which the NAB prosecutor said that the country’s anti graft watchdog has the right to freeze the assets of the accused.
The court later reserved verdict on the application seeking to freeze Dar’s assets.
The hearing of the case was adjourned until November 8.
