US drone strike near Pak Afghan border in Nangarhar
KABUL - At least three ISIS militants were killed in drone strikes in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, the local officials said Saturday.
The governor’s office in Nangarhar in a statement said the airstrikes were carried out by the unmanned aerial vehicles of the US forces in Haska Mina district.
The statement further added that some weapons, ammunition, and explosives of the terror group were also eliminated during the airstrikes.
The governor’s office also confirmed that nine ISIS militants were killed during the air and ground operations in Achin district.
The 209th Shaheen Corps had earlier said that the militants in Tangi Mamand and Wach Zhwara areas of Achin during the Hamza operations.
Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in the East of the country but the anti-government armed militants including the Taliban and ISIS insurgents have been attempting during the recent years to expand their foothold in some remote districts of the province.
However, the Afghan forces are regularly conducting operations together with the US forces who are mainly carrying out airstrikes to root out the terrorists from this province.
