Russia delivers 151 MI-17 V-5 Helicopters to India

MOSCOW: India has purchased 151 MI-17 V-5 helicopters from Russia. India is a traditional buyer of Russian arms since 1950 and since last year Russia was the biggest arms exporter to India, however now USA has clinched this slot from Russia.

The final consignment was delivered on Friday by Russia’s state arm trader Rosoboron export.

MI-17 V-5 helicopter is an upgraded model of MI-8 airframe to meet India’s climate and terrain conditions.

It can be used for carrying troops, arms, and search and rescue missions and for patrolling purpose.

IAF will also purchase 48 MI-17V-5 helicopters from Russia in future.

India and Russia are also working on a joint project to produce Ka-226T helicopters.
