SHC stays handing over of Ibn-e-Qasim Park to Bahria Town

KARACHI (APP): Sindh High Court (SHC) here on Monday suspended provincial government's notification to hand over Ibn-e-Qasim Bagh, a popular park in Karachi, to real estate developer Bahria Town .

The order came up by the bench after initial hearing of the petition filed by Mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhter seeking intervention to the notification issued by Sindh Local Government department that the park was handed over, for adoption, to Bahria Town for a period of 10 years consequent to approval by competent authority.

The local government department through the very notification had also mentioned that the salary of the park's staff would continue to paid by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), headed by City Mayor Wasim Akhter.

The bench adjourned the hearing till April 16 after issuing notices to the respondents.
