Two to three rain, snow spells in plain areas

ISLAMABAD: Two to three spells of rainfall with snowfall over the hills are expected in country during the first month of the year while foggy conditions to grip plains of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.
Slightly below normal rainfall throughout the country is expected during the month however, the amount of snowfall over the hills is also expected to remain slightly below normal during January, an official of Met office told APP on Monday.
The prevailing global climate and weather conditions indicate that weak La Nina conditions are likely to persist into the first quarter of 2018 and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is expected to remain positive during the period, he added.
Mainly cold and dry weather is likely in most parts of the country during next 24 hours whereas foggy conditions are expected to prevail over few plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.
Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.

Minimum temperatures recorded on Monday were Astore -9°C, Skardu, Gupis -08°C, Gilgit, Quetta, Hunza -07°C, Bagrote, Ziarat -06°C, Kalam, Kalat -05°C, Dir -04°C, Murree 00°C, Chitral, Peshawar, Islamabad 02°C, Faisaabad 04°C, Lahore 05°C, Muzaffarabad, Multan 06°C, Hyderbad 07°C, Karachi 10°C.
