Pakistan reiterates commitment to obligations under Rasmsar Convention

Word Wetlands Day is being observed today to raise awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet.

In a message on the occasion, Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam said Pakistan is a signatory to the Convention on Wetlands also known as Ramsar Convention. 

He said under Ramsar Convention, Pakistan has so far designated nineteen wetlands as Ramsar Sites of International significance.

He said a Recharge Pakistan Project is under consideration for implementation. Besides plantation and regeneration of forest cover in mangroves zones and other appropriate areas near wetlands is also planned.

The Advisor said through these efforts, Pakistan reiterates its commitment to international community and the Ramsar Convention.
