Bijrani killed wife before committing suicide: Police

KARACHI: Sindh Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police South Azad Khan on Friday claimed that Sindh Planning and Development Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani killed his wife before committing suicide in their house in Karachi’s Defense area.

DIG South Azad Khan said that the provincial minister received one bullet in his head whereas his wife Fareeha Razzaq received three bullets; one on head and two on abdomen.

The DIG said that the autopsy report proved that Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani killed his wife before committing suicide.

He went on to say that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader’s body was found on a sofa in a study room, while his wife Fareeha Razzaq’s body was found on the floor. Police recovered a 30-bore pistol and four bullet casings from the house.

Staff at the couple’s house told police that they had heard the couple quarrelling for a few days. The two had married in 2010.

In 2013, Bijarani was elected from the PS-16 (Jacobabad-Kashmore). In 1988, he remained a federal minister in the cabinet of the late PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

In 1993, he was assigned the portfolio of Federal Minister for Health, Defence and Special Education. His wife Fareeha Razzaq was a former MPA and the PPP leader.

Meanwhile, the PPP has announced three-day mourning against the mysterious killing of Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani. The PPP has cancelled interviews for the Senate elections.

On the other hand, a shutdown was observed against the incident in the ancestral town of Bijarani and his wife in Thal city. The Kanrani tribe staged a protest demonstration. All shops were closed in Kashmore.
