SAARC Immigration DGs decide on Visa exemption scheme

ISLAMABAD: The 7th meeting of SAARC Immigration Authorities was held in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Pakistan's Director General Immigration and Passports Usman A. Bajwa who was unanimously elected as Chairman chaired the meeting.

It reviewed different areas to maximize the potential of visa exemption scheme launched among the member countries in 1992.

It also deliberated on development of security software for SAARC visa exemption scheme and immigration matters.

In his remarks, Usman Bajwa said the meeting aimed at formulating recommendations to be presented in the meetings of Home Secretaries and Interior Ministers meetings.

He said SAARC Home Secretaries will meet tomorrow while SAARC Interior Ministers will meet on Thursday.

He said visa exemption schemes is being implemented among SAARC countries in twenty-four categories including dignitaries, businessmen, journalists and sports persons.

He stressed the need for taking steps to further promote business to business links and people to people contacts.
