University Teachers boycott in universities

HYDERABAD (APP): A teaching and administrative boycott on the call of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), Sindh, was observed Wednesday in government universities in Hyderabad and Jamshoro districts.

A majority of the teachers stayed away from the classes in Sindh University, Sindh Agriculture University and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.

Meanwhile, the officers associations of all the 3 universities held protest demonstrations and boycotted their work for few hours in the morning.

In a press release issued by Mehran University Officers Welfare Association (MUOWA), the office-bearers expressed support for the demands of FAPUASA from the Sindh Government.

The association, which organized a protest outside the administration block of MUET, also deplored the intervention of the Sindh Government in violation of the university autonomy to appoint a Pro Vice Chancellor and Registrar at MUET.

"We don't accept such ad hoc appointments by the Sindh Government. We also disapprove appointing teachers on the administrative positions," said Engineer Sagheer Ahmed Memon, president of MUOWA.

Separately, Sindh Agriculture University Officers Association, Tando Jam in Hyderabad, also staged a demonstration at the campus.
