KARACHI: (APP) Delegates of International Conference on Engineering Science and Technology Thursday praised the establishment of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and observed that this was the reflective of Aligarhians' dedication towards promotion of education particularly in the fields of science and technology.

An official of the institution said that they were particularly appreciative of the fact that SSUET has been named after Sir Syed Ahmed Khan- a great reformer and protagonist for the cause of education in South Asia.

Mohammed Ajmal Kafeel, Professor at Department of Electronic Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University, India, who was here to participate at a conferenc said that he was excited to visit Pakistan after a lapse of 27 years and more particularly the SSUET which hosted ICET-16, because of which he had an opportunity of having interaction with renowned engineers and scientists from abroad as well as from within Pakistan.

The two-day conference held at SSUET and participated by delegates from South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Finland and from reputed Pakistani universities.

He was of the view that ICET-16 is going to help promote research activities, new ideas through knowledge gained during the two-day conferences and the experiences exhibited by the delegates in the fields of engineering science and technology in coming days besides exploring new directions and vistas.

He said that although he came to Pakistan after 27 long years, still he did not find any difference in the environment of India and Pakistan.

Replying a question, Ajmal informed that as per Nelson Survey of UK, Aligarh University holds third position in India with Chindigarh and Delhi Universities enjoying first and Second positions.

He said in India there is great competition among universities with focus on research activities.

He said Aliigarh University, which is a residential university, today has an enrolment of 35,000 students.

To another question, he appreciated the fact that someone took initiative here to establish this university and that too named after Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

Similarly in India, Azam Khan, a well-known Muslim social figure and a Minister of Urban Department in UP, established a university of engineering in Rampur. This university is going to have a medical college also.

To a question he said that Aligarh University has established its off centres in Kerala, Behar and West Bengal and suggested that SSUET should also consider having its off centres in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar etc.

Ajmal, on the first day of conference, had presented key note address on `state of art and design of tunnel field effect transistor for ultralow power applications'.
