Contempt petition against Governor Punjab in Supreme Court  

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of a contempt of court appeal against Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana for to a date in office.

The court observed that if Chancellors of universities of the province appointed with educational background like vice-chancellors then there would be no administrative issues in universities.

The division bench of the apex court comprising Justice Dost Muhamamd Khan and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the case.

According to the petition, some employees of a government university in Lahore filed an application before the university registrar to register their union however; the university administration dismissed their application. They filed a petition in the Lahore High Court which was also dismissed. The employees filed petition in the Supreme Court against LHC order.

The apex court sought reply from the university administration and directed to proceed on employee's application. On which the university administration dismissed the petitioner from service.

Later, the terminated employee filed contempt of court case against the Governor Punjab.

During the course of proceedings, the petitioner apprised the court that there was an issue of union registration in the Government College University Lahore. He said that the university administration instead of implementing court orders sacked him over filing of the case.

He pleaded the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Governor Punjab as Chancellor of the GCU Lahore.
