For the first time in history, US F35 fighter jets strike in Afghanistan

KABUL - The U.S. Military Marine Corps conducted first airstrike using the F-35B fighter jet eliminating a target in Afghanistan, Pentagon said on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Department of Defense, Pentagon, Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II conducted its first combat strikes in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan yesterday (Thursday).

The statement further added that the airstrike in support of ground clearance operations was deemed successful by the ground force commander.

Pentagon has not disclosed further information regarding the airstrike and the possible casualties inflicted on militants.
