As COAS meets President Ashraf Ghani, former NDS Chiefs act as spoilers as usual
KABUL - Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa meets with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul.
The Pakistani military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations, in a statement said “COAS left for Kabul a day’s official visit.”
The statement further added that Gen. Bajwa will meet Afghan President and military leadership. No further details have been given regarding the agenda of Gen. Bajwa’s meetings with the Afghan officials.
The former minister of state for reforms in the security sector and ex-intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh in a Twitter post expressed pessimisms regarding the visit of Gen. Bajwa to Kabul.
“Pak COAS 2 visit Kabul under US pressure to promise piecemeal action & charge the US a hefty bill or ask concession for terrorists from NUG,” he wrote in his official Twitter account.
The former Afghan intelligence Rahmatullah Nabil expressed similar views regarding Gen. Bajwa’s visit to Kabul.
“Once again Pakistan’s tactical move to soften US strategy, while ISI will continue preparing Talib during winter fr further bloodshed in AFG,” he said.
The visit by Gen. Bajwa to Kabul comes amid growing pressures by Washington on Islamabad and the pressures continue to remain high on the country after the new US strategy was announced by President Donald Trump last month who strongly criticized Pakistan for the terror sanctuaries and groups operating from the Pakistani soil.
