Former president Pervez Musharraf sends picture for Pakistani court from UAE hospital

*ISLAMABAD – Former President Pervez Musharraf has decided not to appear in court due to his poor health on Thursday.*

He has submitted an application to delay the court proceedings until Ramazan. The application contained medical certificates and pictures of the hospital where he is being treated.

The application states that former President Pervez Musharraf is ready to return to the country, but doctors are not allowing him to travel. “Pervez Musharraf cannot come to country due to malignant disease,” it stated.

On April 1, the Supreme Court had ruled that former president Pervez Musharraf will lose the defence right if he failed to appear before court on May 2.

According to the verdict, Pervez Musharraf will have no right to record his statement under section 342. “However, Pervez Musharraf will be entitled to all facilities if he appears before court,” it added.

Chief Justice Asif Seeed Khosa directed the special court to decide the high treason case after hearing the prosecution if Musharraf doesn’t appear in court.

He ruled that an absconding accused has no right.
