BARCELONA: The trial of famous footballer Lionel Messi begin in Spain for forming offshore companies to avoid tax invasion.
Sources claimed that Lionel Messi and his father accused of avoiding tax of euro 3 million from 2007 to 2009 that could lead them to jail for a period of up to 22 months.
Messi’s lawyer Javier Sanchez-Vera told the court “The intention of Mr Lionel was to attend the plenary hearing, but he has suffered an injury.”
He also presented medical reports of Messi in the court.
Messi is among one of the richest footballer and also won the best footballer award in FIFA matches for four times.
He also scored 314 goals in La Liga matches.
Messi was also ranked at 10th among highest earning athletes in Forbes Magazine with an income of $350 million.
