Pakistan rejects US accusations

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while rejecting the US accusations that Pakistan provides sanctuary to militant groups, has said that attacks in the region are originating from across the border in Afghanistan.

In an interview with Bloomberg, he said Pakistan will act against terrorists found within its borders, including the Haqqani network. He said that cross-border infiltration from Afghanistan is the order of the day and Pakistan has pinpointed even the sanctuaries of the attackers in Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Trump’s troop increase in Afghanistan will end in failure and urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to agree to peace talks. He said “we have assured them of whatever assistance we would be able to offer, but things are quite fragmented on that side.
