JHANG (APP)- The polling for PP-78 by-election was ongoing peacefully after it began well on time at almost all 171 polling stations here on Thursday.

Election Commission of Pakistan handed over security of the day to Pak Army and Rangers and the election material including polling bags etc were delivered to Presidiong Officers under strict supervision and security of Rangers last night.
EC has given powers of First Class Magisterates to Rangers deputed at Polling Stations. Ranger Officers and Jawans were alert inside and outside all polling stations. They had also been given special powers under ATA 4 and 5 to maintain law and order.
According to Returning Officer Tanvirul Hassan 86 male and 85 female polling stations had been set up where 118627 male and 97935 female voters were casting their votes today.

Security sources said that out of 171 polling stations 17 polling stations had been declared most sensitive.The polling will continue without interval till 5 pm.
Twenty five candidates are contesting for this seat but the close competition is between PML-N candidate Haji Azad Naser Ansari and Independent candidate Molana Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi.The seat got vacated after disqualification of MPA Rashda Yaqub.
