SC seeks report from Punjab govt on non-construction of dams

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has sought reply from the Punjab government while taking notice regarding non- construction of two dams in Rawalpindi.

The Chief Justice took the notice while hearing a case and remarked that the government could invest public money for building a project like Orange Train then why not for construction of dams.

Senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan apprised the bench that earlier, Punjab government allotted land for the construction of Dadhocha Dam in Rawalpindi, but it could not start work on it as Bharia Town offered its investment three miles away from the location.

The Chief Justice remarked that there was dire need of dams but the past governments did not pay attention to this.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice also took the notice of non-construction of Papan Dam and issued notices to Punjab government seeking its reply on the matter.
